Yarn Along (5)

Joining in with Ginny at Small Things for another Yarn Along. It has been SO long since I have participated in this as my knitting had come to a standstill...that is until last night. I have devoured many books since the last post, but had a bit of "knitter's block" (is that a real thing?). But then last night I came across this pattern again and remembered how much I loved it and all of the lovely cotton I bought last year, so I cast it on! I made one of these dishcloths last year as a Christmas gift, and I intend on making a few more this year.

I am currently re-reading the entire Harry Potter series for pure pleasure. I am on the fourth book (out of seven for those unfamiliar with the series). These books are so much fun to read and I am loving them all over again! Here is another photo showing the texture on the dishcloth:

Thanks for stopping by!

Yarn Along (4)

Joining in with Ginny again this week for another Yarn Along Post!

It has been a crazy couple of weeks. I don't have much for progress to show on my knitting this week, as I am STILL attempting to unravel the huge entanglement that is currently the bane of my existence. I did, however, decide to let you see the awful knot and also ask a couple of questions. So here we go:

On the right is a second skein of the same yarn that I am afraid
of undoing in case I cause another knot!

So the knot comes between the cast on hat and the round ball that I have managed to untangle and make sense of. I think that my inexperience with this type of skein may have caused this horrendous beast, and so I would like to ask for some advice. Is there a trick to undoing this type of skein without causing a giant entanglement? What did I do? Part of me wants to just cut off both ends of the knot and start fresh with the already untangled yarn, but the other (stubborn) part of me just wants to get it untangled and then get going on the hat. I really just want to knit though and not have to stress about untangling it.

And then the second part of this Yarn Along is the book. Or should I say books? You see, after the last Yarn Along, I finished my book in 2 days. And then I hit a book slump. I have this problem with going from book to book, you see. I can't seem to get the old characters and story out of my head. I am constantly in angst over which will be my next book, and it is especially hard to pick a new one after an exceptionally good book, which is what the last book really was. So what do I do to get out of this slump? I randomly pick up unread (or sometimes read) books off of my shelf, and I start reading. I then decided that it is not that book's "time" yet, and move on to the next. By the end of the week, I have started any number of books and have not committed to a single one of them. I am a literary floozy. So I have started 3 so far, and no such luck finding the one. So any help on this would also be appreciated. Shall it be Jane Eyre, The Hours, or The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo? Put in your vote, and I will choose the one that is the most popular and stick with it. I promise.

Hope you are all having a lovely week knitting and reading!

Yarn Along (2)

I loved joining in last week with Ginny at Small Things and getting to read so many new blogs, so I will continue on with the (new) tradition!

This picture represents my knitting and my reading, and also shows the fact that my knitting has almost completely overtaken my reading! With Christmas looming and gifts still to finish, I have not made much progress with Animal, Vegetable, Miracle, but I am loving the little snippets I am sneaking in here and there! Now as far as the knitting goes, I am progressing nicely! This is another scarf, but this one is for my sister, who is a bit of a fashionista. She loves pink, but I wanted this scarf to make a bold but not too girly statement. She is after all, in her twenties, and no longer a little girl (although she will always be my little sister :). I made it extra wide and long, so she can wrap it around herself any which way she pleases. The wool is super chunky to begin with, and I doubled it up to get the pattern effect with the pink and white. I think it is gorgeous, and I hope she will feel the same way! My mom's scarf is still unfinished, but coming along beautifully. I will share a picture of the finished product at a later date. Thank you for stopping by, have a lovely Wednesday, hopefully full of knitting, reading, drinking tea, and enjoying this wonderful time of year!

Yarn Along

I thought I would participate with Ginny at Small Things for her Yarn Along weekly post, and share with you my two favorite hobbies, reading and knitting!

I am knitting a 100% alpaca wool scarf for my mom for Christmas (eek, so much more to go!). I chose this particular wool because it contains no dyes and is hypoallergenic for my mom's super sensitive skin. Plus it is about as soft as butter and oh so luxurious, without being too extravagant. I am knitting it in a simple stockinette stitch with a very small border along the edges to keep it from curling. Elegant and classic, just like mom :).

I am reading Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingslover. I love the idea of being entirely self sufficient, and this is her real life story of attempting to accomplish that, or at least know where all of her food is coming from. I am not that far into the book quite yet, but so far I am liking it very much.

Thank you for stopping by for a visit! Wishing you a very happy Wednesday!
